The Fashion Design Academy is a unique Career Education and College Preparatory program designed to provide high school students with the training and skills necessary for careers in fashion design, fashion merchandising and/or marketing operations. This academy program will prepare high school students for entrance into post secondary education or entrance directly into the workforce. The Fashion Academy has a rich, hands- on curriculum focusing on design skills and a broad array of transferable garment construction techniques. Every student will experience all aspects of garment construction and design starting at entry level with no prior experience required. As students continue through this four year program they will perfect their skills in advanced garment construction, computerized garment design and creative embroidery design using advanced technology to simulate industry standards.
The Design Services cluster is designed to prepare students for initial employment or continued study in the Interior Design/Decorating industry or the Fashion industry. This cluster is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of a core, two programs (Fashion Design Services and Interior Design Service ), and four completion points in each program. Students must complete the core before advancing in either of the programs. The core provides the foundation and basic skills that will enable the student to progress to either Fashion Design Services Interior Design Services or . The recommended sequence allows students to complete specified portions of the program for employment or to remain for advanced training. A student who completes the applicable competencies at each occupational completion point may either continue the training program or terminate as an occupational completer. CTSO – Career and Technical Student Organization
The Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are an extension of the classroom instructional program by integrating academics and career and technical skills into real work experiences. CTSOs provide career awareness, leadership, motivation, and recognition for career related skills.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is one of the eight Career and Technical Student Organizations. Any student who has taken a course in Family and Consumer Sciences through grade 12 is eligible for active membership in an organized chapter within their school. Teachers certified to teach Family and Consumer Sciences Education can serve as the FCCLA chapter adviser. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life-planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision-making and interpersonal communication-necessary in the home and workplace.
Members of the Jan Mann FCCLA Chapter have been on the fast track to excellence since 2004. Every year students compete in district and state level competitions and have been awarded top honor for their achievements. Members of the Jan Mann FCCLA has been bringing home awards and metals in every event they have competed in, and they are determined to be the top chapter in the district and state. We strive for excellence in everything that we do, as evident by our spectacular fashion show produced every year. The Fashion Design students who are also members of FCCLA , Design garments of various aesthetics and showcase them in our annual fashion show. Our very talented students has the opportunity to learn and create things fueled by their imagination, and we, at the Jan Mann Fashion Design Academy, are the engine that propels them forward to a bright future.
